VIDEO: Russian attack jets smash militant defenses in Idlib over and over again with rocket salvos
BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:40 P.M.) – Video footage has emerged showing Russian attack aircraft hitting militant positions in southern Idlib province over and over again amid heavy clashes on the ground throughout the region between pro-government forces and militant groups.
Opposition media has released footage, captured by activists on the ground, showing a 2-ship flight of Russian Su-25 ground attack aircraft striking rebel positions and movements in Idlib’s southern countryside.
The engagement shown in the video (below) is reported to have taken place at the towns of Al-Halbeh and Al-Tah. Here the two Russian warplanes conducted a total of 10 airstrikes (combat passes).
The Su-25 is purpose-built ground attack aircraft that in addition to providing close air support to troops on the ground can carry out separate interdiction sorties.
Although the warplane is capable of a diverse weapons load-out including bombs, cannon, rockets and missiles, the heavy use of unguided rockets in particular does a appear to be a preference of the Russian air grouping in Syria.
