VIDEO: Elite Syrian troops battle hard to restore full security to a key base in east Damascus
BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:00 A.M.) – On Friday, Syrian troops secured the Karajat Al-Hajz area in the Harasta district of eastern Damascus as part of an going push to restore all points lost by the army forces to militant groups around the military vehicle depot base.
At the same time, the Syrian Army is advancing on another axis, this being into the heart of Harasta itself. Here, Syrian troops are attempting to overrun the first yet main line of defense used by militant groups within the district.
The principal Syrian Army units involved in both operations are derived from the 4th Mechanized Division and Republican Guard (both elite groupings) whilst the jihadist militias opposing the advance of government forces are linked to Al-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood.
Footage (shown below) has emerged showing the battle that took place between the Syrian Arab Army and Islamist militias on Friday in the Karajat Al-Hajz area of Harasta. Interesting to note is the ongoing use of Gulan heavy rocket launchers, storming troops and fixed-place heavy machine machine guns by government forces.
