Pictures: Nusra flings huge car bomb at Syrian Army as militants attempt to reclaim lost distinct in east Damascus
BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:40 P.M.) – On Sunday, Al-Qaeda affiliate militia Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham (better known by its former name, Jabhat al-Nusra) conducted a car bomb attack against Syrian Army positions in the now government-controlled East Ghouta district of Jisreen.
At the present time little information is available on the result of the attack, specifically whether or not it was successful and, if so, how many losses were endured to the ranks of Syrian government forces.
At face value, the explosion appears to have taken out an entire residential building block.
Some sources state that the car bomb attack was followed up with a general storming of Syrian Army positions aimed at retaking the district of Jisreen, but that the assault was ultimately repelled by Republican Guard units.
Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham is the second biggest group after ISIS to conduct suicide car bomb attacks on enemy forces – even so, it ranks second place by a very large margin, perhaps to a factor of about 10.
