Palestine: Ahed Tamimi joins Khan Al-Ahmar protest

BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:10 A.M.) – Freed Palestinian activist Ahed al-Tamimi joined the protest against the demolition of the Khan Al-Ahmar village on Friday.

Tamimi, who served an eight-month prison sentence for slapping an Israeli soldier in December 2017, took part in a nonviolent march along the main Jerusalem-Jericho road which passes near the village cited for demolition by Israel.

The protesters waved the flag of Palestine and chanted slogans condemning Israel’s plan to demolish the village.

Last week, the 52 residing families in Khan Al-Ahmar rejected an offer issued by the Israeli Supreme Court to relocate to a location in Jericho, some 8.5 kilometres away from the village.

The Israeli Supreme Court approved the request to demolish the village in May, claiming that Khan al-Ahmar was built illegally without an Israeli permit and that the residents should relocate to the nearby village Al-Jabel.

However, this month the Israeli Supreme Court has issued a temporary injunction to block the demolition and has agreed to hold another hearing in August. The demolition will remain on hold until then.
