Full report from strategic battle in west Yemen
BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:45 P.M.) – The Gulf-backed troops launched the largest offensive of the three year long Yemen War, today, targeting the strategic Hodeideh Port that is under the control of the Houthi forces.
Led by the Southern Resistance Army and Republican Guard, the Gulf-backed troops stormed the Houthi defenses around the Hodeideh Governorate, seizing several points from the anti-government forces.
Among the most imperative advances made by the Gulf-backed troops in Hodeideh today took place near the provincial airport, which is now within striking distance for the Republican Guard and Southern Resistance Army.
According to pro-government media activists, their forces are closing in on the Hodeideh Aiport after making a second major push towards this strategic installation in western Yemen.
The Houthi forces have responded to these advances made by the pro-government troops by launching several missiles towards the camps of the Southern Resistance Army and Yemeni Republican Guard.
Yemeni Republican Guard
Once a strategic ally to the Houthi forces, the Yemeni Republican Guard switched sides in this war, following the assassination of former President ‘Ali ‘Abdullah Saleh.
Now led by his Saleh’s son, Hadi, the Yemeni Republican Guard has wrecked havoc on the Houthi defenses in western Yemen for much of this year.
The Yemeni Republican Guard played a pivotal role in expelling the Houthi forces from the Mocha Port and several other major sites in western Yemen.
Perhaps no force has played a bigger role in the success of the pro-government troops than the Arab Coalition, which is led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirats (UAE).
The Arab Coalition provided much needed air cover in eastern Hodeideh, where the Southern Resistance Army and Republican Guard are attempting to capture the Al-Hays District.
According to pro-Houthi activists, the Arab Coalition launched over 40 airstrikes above the Hodeideh Governorate, today, causing severe damage to the province, while also killing a number of civilians.
The air support from the Arab Coalition has been a thorn in the side of the Houthi forces, as they are often unable to counter these American-made jets that are bombarding their positions.
