Breaking: Syrian Army makes first major breakthrough in northwest Daraa

BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:50 P.M.) – Minutes ago, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF) made their first major breakthrough in northwest Daraa after the rebels agreed to surrender three towns.

According to a military source in Daraa, the Free Syrian Army (FSA) agreed to handover the towns of Inkhil, Mazyreb, and Kafr Shams after a productive round of talks with the government and Russian Reconciliation Center.

Kafr Shams is located at the northeastern rim of the imperative Daraa Triangle; it was under the control of the Free Syrian Army’s Southern Front Brigades since late 2014.

The Syrian Army and Russian military police are now preparing to enter these three towns in order to solidify the reconciliation deal by collecting the medium and heavy weapons of the rebel forces.

This new advance will pave the way for the Syrian Arab Army to make their first major push into the Daraa Triangle.

In particular, taking control of Kafr Shams will give the Syrian Army access to the strategic hilltop town of Tal Al-Harrah, which is arguable the most important point in southwest Syria.

If the rebels lose Tal Al-Harrah, the battle for southwest Syria will ultimately be over, as this large hilltop town overlooks much of west Daraa and Al-Quneitra.
